Silverbough

There are forests in Lunauria that do not sleep when winter comes. They shine.

The Silverwood Expanse is one of these, a vast stretch of ancient evergreens whose branches shimmer with a faint lunar sheen. On nights when the moon rises sharp and white, the forest exhales a cool breath of eucalyptus and mint, and frost spreads across the needles in delicate silver filigree.

Entering the Expanse feels less like walking and more like being welcomed. The air grows crisp, clean, and impossibly still, not empty, but reverent, as though the forest is holding its breath in quiet ceremony. Cypress trunks rise like pillars of pale shadow, and pine branches whisper overhead, their resinous scent drifting through the cold like a soft incantation.

Then comes the glow.

It begins as a faint shimmer along the frost, a silver ripple that moves from branch to branch as though moonlight is traveling through the trees themselves. Smoke curls gently through the air, warm, sweet, touched with tonka, drifting in slow spirals that soften the cold.

And in that glow, the forest reveals its Sageborn.

Eirwyn Frostbough does not arrive. She appears, the way frost appears on glass, quietly, inevitably, as though she has always been there. Her hair falls in cool silver waves, her eyes gleam like ice catching firelight, and the air around her carries the crisp breath of mint and pine. Smoke drifts around her shoulders like a warm veil, softening the winter air.

Where she walks, frost forms delicate patterns on the ground. Branches brighten with silver light. The forest grows still, not from fear, but from awe.

Silverbough is her presence made scent, the cool clarity of winter’s breath, the luminous hush of moonlit frost, the gentle warmth that keeps the cold from becoming lonely.

To enter the Silverwood Expanse is to feel the world sharpen and soften at once. To light Silverbough is to bring that moment home.
